BookWanders is new, and the map is close to empty nearly everywhere. So the first thing most people do is start their neighbourhood rather than browse one — and that is the normal path through the product, not a consolation prize. Here is what it actually looks like.
Claim it, don't name it
You pick your neighbourhood off the official map of civil parishes rather than typing its name, so everyone on your street lands in one place instead of three spellings of it. That is the whole reason the second person can ever find the first.
An empty shelf still has a park
Add the places your neighbourhood actually uses — the park, the café, the library — and the things that repeat there every week, like the Saturday market. A neighbourhood with no books in it yet still reads like somewhere real, and gives the next person somewhere to turn up.
Three books, two neighbours
One book looks abandoned; three looks like an invitation. Then tell two people — the building group chat, the book club, whoever you already lend to. A lending network of one is just a bookshelf.
Nobody finds a book three doors down on day one — somebody has to be the first shelf on the street. The map currently covers Portugal, all 3,259 freguesias; more countries get added as people ask for them.

See what's nearby
Your feed is every book within your chosen lending radius, filterable by genre and availability. Not a marketplace — a shelf that happens to belong to your street.
Ask for it
Send a request, agree a time, and pick a public place to meet — a park bench, a café, a local market. You'll get an email the moment someone replies.
Hand it over
Both sides confirm the handoff in the app. A soft reminder nudges the return date. No penalties, no late fees — this stays trust-based on purpose.
Return, rate, repeat
Confirm the book came back, leave a rating, and collect your tokens. Every completed loop makes the next stranger easier to meet.
